CHINA Cinema: "Report from 24 City"
Screenplay written by Jia Zhang Ke
The scriptwriter Jia Zhang Ke indicates: "Even though, the plot of that film is based in our time, people are talking about past events. It's about the experiences of an existence that comprises any stage of time during a period of 50 years."
"Because that film on one side should have all human life of those years, it is telling about a state run company and its 30.000 employees and workers and about 100.000 families. It is talking about changes taking place, about the selling of land that led to the development of trade and about the company being splintered. There are five authentic workers narrating and four actors performing. All of them, side by side, are talking about 50 years of industrial history."
That state run company is "weaponry factory 420". The course of human experiences and emotions during the three ages of that "pattern factory", i.e. during the 1960s and 1980s up to the present age, is mirrored by the changing course of a Chinese town.
